The Republican Party: Working for Catholics
The GOP’s record of accomplishment reflects the values that are important to Catholics. President Bush has consistently worked to promote a culture of life by getting pro-life guidelines for stem-cell research and unequivocally opposing the cloning of human beings for either reproduction or research. He has signed three pro-life bills to date: The Partial Birth Abortion Ban, The Born Alive Infant Protection Act, and Laci & Connor’s Law. In addition, the President is in agreement with the Vatican that the sanctity of marriage between one man and one woman must be protected and he supports a Marriage Protection Amendment.
The President recognizes and appreciates the work of religious and lay members within the Church to preserve the dignity and equality of all throughout the world. President Bush’s global relief provides aid to combat AIDS/HIV both domestically and abroad, and provides food aid to countries around the world to combat global hunger. The President’s Faith-Based and Community initiative allows America’s most effective social service providers to compete for federal funding to serve our most vulnerable citizens without compromising a provider's religious character and independence.
There is much at stake. Catholics throughout the country are involved in a grassroots effort working to communicate the Party’s compassionate agenda among family and friends within their communities. While 2004 was a great year for Catholic Republicans, we still have much work to do to build an America that respects life and promotes economic and educational opportunity for all Americans.
