President Bush: Delivering for Students
President Bush has laid out ambitious goals for the future, behind which all Americans can unite. Now the choice is clear – to move forward on the path to freedom and prosperity, or to turn back. This election is incredibly important for all of us – but particularly important for younger Americans. Younger Americans are in the unique position to benefit from the opportunities offered by this President’s positive and forward looking policies.
Student Loan Funding: President Bush's 2005 budget request strengthens student loans. The President's proposals reflect his commitment to make college more affordable for students and their families and to strengthen the financial stability of the student loan programs.
Pell Grants: President Bush has proposed increasing Pell Grant funding to $12.9 billion – a $856-million increase – to help an estimated 5.3 million students from low-income families pay for higher education. This is one million more students since President Bush took office. In total, student aid for higher education would increase to more than $73 billion – a $4.2 billion (6%) increase over 2004. Almost 10 million students and parents – a 426,000 increase – would receive one or more grants, loans or work-study awards.
Minority Education: President Bush's budget proposal provides record funding to assist colleges and universities with a large proportion of minority and disadvantaged students.
President Bush is Tackling the Big Issues
- Steady Leadership to Cut Taxes and Grow the Economy: President Bush wants to see you keep more of the money you earn when you enter the workplace. This is why President Bush cut taxes not once, but three times. Failing to make President Bush's tax cuts permanent – a position favored by Senator Kerry – would dramatically increase the burden on American taxpayers in the future.
- Making America Safer: America is safer today because of the decisive action and leadership of President Bush. He has called for continued action at home and abroad to defeat terrorists and pursuit of a forward strategy of freedom to promote democracy throughout the Middle East. Under President Bush's leadership, America continues to wage a relentless campaign against terrorists who threaten our country.
- Saving Social Security: President Bush wants to make sure Social Security is available to young Americans by providing younger workers with the opportunity to set up personal accounts they control.
- Making Health Care More Affordable: President Bush has a comprehensive agenda – which includes Association Health Plans (AHPs), Health Savings Accounts (HSAs), new health insurance deductions, refundable tax credits, and medical liability reform – to address rising health care costs and make health care more affordable to all Americans.
